We have identified each of the Scopes of Work and corresponding Construction Checklists by a 5-digit number. This number is a Cost Code which corresponds to SMA’s recommended Best Practice Chart of Accounts. Communicating with your trade partners via a set of clearly defined Scopes of Work is one part of a system that allows you to take control of your direct costs. Another part of that system, is to tie each Scope to a specific Cost Code so that you know exactly who you are paying and for what. Having Scopes of Work in place that tie-out to specific Cost Codes, sets the stage for the implementation of a Purchase Order system that will truly enable your organization to budget effectively.
